This one-day course covers graphic fundamentals
for small group facilitators.
Theory. Approximately 60% of the general population is visual. Presenting
materials that include graphic reinforcements enhances what people will remember
and make recall easier. We'll learn about visual appeal, the use colors to convey
specific messages, and even the subtle chart layout tips to aid people with remembering
the topic. We can even help you determine your natural operating modality - Visual,
Auditory, Kinesthetic or Red, Green Blue.
Styles. Did you know that words on the chart page can SHOUT? Did you know
that your graphic charting style can set the tone for a meeting, energize a group,
and even stimulate participation? Learn how styles can be used effectively to aid
Models. This course will also introduce several graphic models that can
be effectively used immediately in any team to help participants organize their planning
and implementation approach to group problem solving.
Frames and Formats. Learn how to frame a graphic to maximize effectiveness,
and how to engage chart format to make it easier to find specific points that have
been covered during lengthy sessions.
Practice. Beginning with "getting to know you" and ending with
"what's next" everyone will be fully engaged with graphic interpretations
- graphic doodles - and graphic representations! Like any skills, constant practice
will assure the most creative charts (and other media).
Techniques. Markers can be a magic wand in the hands of an expert graphic
facilitator. We'll teach you how to use the chisel end of a marker with maximum effect,
and how to "hang" charts to assure continuity and maximum effectiveness.
In addition, we'll include such topics as creating chart transcriptions, proper "dancing"
with an assistant, and even how to deal with difficult participants.
Supplies. You'll leave with a supply of items that will be the envy of
any graphic facilitator - ready for your next assignment. The supply kits will include:
markers (of course), tape, cover-up tape, and more.
